Chalong

Arrival Time: 20-30 mins

Chalong is a bustling mix of tourism, connecting Phuket Town to Rawai and Kata. With the famous Chalong Pier and Wat Chalong, traffic here is heavy, and breakdowns are frequent.

EV Phuket provides rapid roadside assistance throughout the Chalong circle and surrounding soi’s.

Locations We Serve in Chalong

  • Chalong Pier:
    • Many boat owners park their trucks here for days. If you come back from a trip to Racha Island and your car won’t start, give us a call.
    • Marine Batteries: We also supply deep-cycle batteries for boats!
  • Wat Chalong (Chaithararam Temple):
    • A hot spot for tourists. If your rental car dies in the temple parking lot, we can assist.
  • Phuket Zoo / Soi Ta-iad (Muay Thai Street):
    • We cover all the gyms and training camps in the area.
  • Chaofah West & East Roads:
    • The main arteries. We can reach you roadside if you break down during the commute.

Marine Batteries for Boats 🚤

Uniquely for our Chalong branch, we stock Marine Batteries.

  • Deep Cycle: Designed for trolling motors and house power on yachts.
  • Starting Batteries: High cranking amps to start big outboard engines (Yamaha, Mercury).
  • Delivery: We deliver directly to the pier or marina.

Why Chalong Residents Trust Us

  1. Local Speed: We base a team near Chalong Circle, so we don’t have to drive all the way from Town.
  2. Multilingual: We speak English and Thai, making it easy for the diverse expat community in Chalong.
  3. Honest Diagnosis: We won’t sell you a battery if you don’t need one. We test your alternator first.

Driving Up “Big Buddha” Hill

The Big Buddha (Phra Phutta Ming Mongkol) is iconic, but the road up Nakkerd Hill is steep and winding.

  • The Risk: Driving up steep hills puts maximum load on your alternator and engine. If your battery is weak, the voltage drop can cause stalling.
  • The Descent: Coming down, use Low Gear (L or 2). Do not ride the brakes!
  • Stuck on the hill? It is dangerous. Call us. We have pickup trucks with high torque that can bring a new battery up the mountain to you.

Rawai & Nai Harn: The Expat Loop

Just south of Chalong lies Rawai and Nai Harn Beach. This area is full of long-term expats.

  • Promthep Cape: The sunset view point. Thousands of cars park here at 6 PM. If you can’t start your car after the sun goes down, it’s a traffic nightmare. We have a team stationed in Rawai specifically for this “Sunset Rush”.
  • Sea Gypsy Market: Parked to buy seafood? We cover this area too.

Marine Battery Care 101 (For Boat Owners)

Since Chalong is the boating hub:

  1. Corrosion is the Enemy: Salt air eats battery terminals. We use a special “Terminal Protector Spray” (red or blue coating) on every marine installation.
  2. Vibration: Speedboats slam into waves. A standard car battery will have its internal plates shaken loose. You MUST use a bonded “Marine Grade” battery or an AGM battery.
  3. Bilge Pumps: They run 24/7 if your boat leaks. This kills batteries. We recommend a “Dual Battery System” (one for starting, one for the pump/house) with an isolator switch. We can install this for you.

”My motorbike battery is dead too!”

Chalong is big bike territory (Harley, Ducati, BMW GS).

  • While we specialize in cars, we also stock Yuasa / RR batteries for Big Bikes.
  • If your Harley won’t crank at the Chalong Circle meetup, give us a shout.

Route Guide: Finding Our Chalong Outpost

While we are a mobile service, many customers ask where we are based to gauge arrival time.

  • Base Location: We have a depot near Chalong Circle (Golden Lotus Clock Tower).
  • Coverage Radius: From this central hub, we can shoot out to Rawai (10 mins), Kata (15 mins over the hill), or Phuket Town (20 mins).
  • Traffic Tip: If the Chalong Underpass is blocked (accidents happen often there), our technicians use the local back roads through Soi Ta-iad or Soi Palai to bypass the jam.

Expanded Marine Battery FAQ (For Yachts & Speedboats)

Q: My boat has a “Perko Switch”. How do I use it? A: That’s your battery isolator. “1” is typically your Starter Battery. “2” is your House Battery (lights/pumps). “ALL” combines them.

  • Crucial Tip: Never turn the switch to “OFF” while the engine is running! It will blow your alternator diodes immediately.

Q: How often should I change my boat battery? A: In Phuket’s humid, salty environment, we recommend changing them every 2 years. Even if it starts, the internal lead plates sulfated faster than cars due to the constant wave pounding. Don’t risk being stranded at Racha Island!

Q: Do you buy back old batteries? A: Yes! Lead is heavy and valuable. We offer a Trade-In Discount for every old battery you give us. 100-300 THB off per battery depending on size (ah). This is also good for the ocean—we ensure 100% recycling.
