Complete Mazda 2 Battery Replacement Guide Phuket
The Mazda 2 is a highly popular compact car with beautiful design, fun driving dynamics, and advanced SkyActiv technology. However, many people may not know that Mazda 2 from the 2015 generation onwards has an i-Stop system that works similarly to Start-Stop, requiring EFB batteries only.
I’ve encountered many customers who installed standard batteries in their Mazda 2, only to have them fail within 2-3 months because the i-Stop system works very frequently. This article will explain everything about Mazda 2 batteries in the simplest way possible.
Why Mazda 2 Must Use EFB Battery
Mazda 2 from the 2015 generation onwards (chassis code DJ) has the i-Stop system installed as standard in all variants, whether C, S, SP, or XD models.
The i-Stop system automatically turns off the engine when stationary and restarts it when the driver releases the brake. It works similarly to Toyota/Honda’s Start-Stop, but with a special feature: Mazda uses a faster starting system, making it start more frequently than other brands.
This is why all Mazda 2 generations from 2015 must use EFB batteries only. Standard batteries are strictly prohibited.
What Batteries Each Mazda 2 Generation Uses
DE Generation (2009-2014):
- No i-Stop yet
- Uses standard NS40 or NS60 batteries
- Price: ฿1,800-2,500
DJ Generation (2015-2022):
- i-Stop in all variants
- Must use EFB Q85 only
- Price: ฿3,200-4,200
DJ Minor Change (2023-Present):
- i-Stop in all variants
- Must use EFB Q85 only
- Price: ฿3,200-4,200
Simple observation: Mazda 2 year 2015 onwards—if it’s 2015+, use EFB immediately.
