Tesla Model 3 Battery Care Guide Phuket
The Tesla Model 3 is a dream car for many, with cutting-edge technology and batteries that Tesla claims last 8-10 years. But how do you actually take care of it? What are the signs of battery degradation?
I’ve met customers who’ve used the Model 3 for 3-4 years and worry about battery degradation, but when checked, SOH is still at 95%. This article will explain the differences between Model 3 battery types and how to care for them for maximum lifespan.
What Battery Does Tesla Model 3 Use
Tesla Model 3 has 2 battery types depending on year and version.
NCM Battery (Nickel Cobalt Manganese):
- Used in Long Range and Performance
- High capacity 75-82 kWh
- Faster charging
- Avoid charging 100% frequently
LFP Battery (Lithium Iron Phosphate):
- Used in Standard Range Plus (2021+)
- Capacity 55-60 kWh
- More durable than NCM
- Can charge 100% daily without issues
How to Check Which Battery:
- Open Tesla app → Service → Battery
- Or check car screen: if it recommends charging 100% = LFP
How to Check Tesla Model 3 Battery Degradation
Via Tesla App:
- Open app → Service → Battery Health
- Check State of Health (SOH)
- Normal should be 90-100%
- Below 70% is considered heavily degraded
Observe from Usage:
- Range significantly reduced
- Full charge provides 20%+ less distance
- Used for 5-7 years
Tesla Battery Warranty:
- Standard Range: 8 years or 160,000 km (maintain 70% capacity)
- Long Range/Performance: 8 years or 192,000 km (maintain 70% capacity)
How to Charge Tesla for Longer Battery Life
For NCM (Long Range/Performance):
- Daily charging at 80-90%
- Charge 100% only for long trips
- Don’t go below 10%
For LFP (Standard Range):
- Can charge 100% daily
- Recommend charging 100% weekly for calibration
- No worries about full charging
All Models:
- Use Wall Connector at home is best
- Supercharger can be used but not daily
- Always park in shade
