Tesla Model Y Battery Care Guide Phuket
The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling EV in many countries, including Thailand. As a practical SUV with a larger battery than Model 3 and full features, many wonder how to care for the battery for long life.
I’ve met customers who’ve used the Model Y for 2 years and worry about faster battery degradation because it’s larger. But actually, Model Y has a larger battery and better battery management system. This article explains everything about Model Y batteries.
What Battery Does Tesla Model Y Use
Tesla Model Y has 2 battery types, same as Model 3.
NCM Battery (Long Range/Performance):
- Capacity 75-82 kWh
- Range 500-520 km (WLTP)
- Max charging 250 kW
- Recommend daily charging 80-90%
LFP Battery (RWD new version):
- Capacity 60-65 kWh
- Range 430-450 km (WLTP)
- Can charge 100% daily
- More durable than NCM
Easy Observation:
- Long Range/Performance = NCM
- RWD (cheaper version) = LFP
How to Check Model Y Battery Health
Via Tesla App:
- Service → Battery Health
- Check State of Health (SOH)
- Normal for first 2-3 years SOH should be 95%+
Via Car Screen:
- Tap battery icon

- Compare to when new
Tesla Warranty:
- Long Range/Performance: 8 years or 192,000 km
- RWD: 8 years or 160,000 km

How to Charge Model Y Correctly
For NCM (Long Range/Performance):
- Set Charge Limit at 80-90%
- Charge 100% only before long trips
- Use Wall Connector at home
For LFP (RWD):
- Can charge 100% daily
- Recommend charging 100% weekly
- No worries about full charging
All Models:
- Park in shade for long parking
- Don’t let battery below 10% often
- Supercharger can be used but not daily
Common Model Y Battery Problems
Range drops in cold weather:
- Normal for lithium batteries
- Model Y has Heat Pump to reduce impact
- Returns to normal in hot weather
High Phantom Drain:
- Model Y larger than Model 3
- May lose 2-3% per day
- Normal if Sentry Mode not on
Slower charging:
- May be because charging station is hot
- Or battery nearly full
- Try changing stations
If Model Y Battery Degrades
Claim Tesla Service Center:
- If under warranty
- SOH below 70%
- Free replacement
Battery Prices (Estimated):
- RWD (LFP): ~฿350,000-400,000
