What Each One Is Actually Good At
Tesla Model Y L — the brand, and six seats
Strengths: globally recognised badge; the only six-seater here; Supercharger network; FSD (beta) with continuous OTA feature updates; by far the largest cargo volume at 2,500+ L.
Weaknesses: most expensive in the group at ฿1.99M; imported CBU so no EV3.5 subsidy; shorter range than the MG; build quality in Premium trim doesn’t fully match the price.
BYD Sealion 7 Performance — the fast one
Strengths: 530 hp is the highest here and 4.3 s to 100 km/h the quickest; Blade LFP chemistry is the safest of the three; ฿400,000 cheaper than the Tesla; AWD; assembled in Thailand so it qualifies for EV3.5.
Weaknesses: shortest range of the three; least usable cargo space for its size; heaviest at 2,090 kg.
MG IM5 Long Range — the distance king
Strengths: 860 km range, comfortably the longest; 396 kW charging does 10-80% in 12 minutes; cheapest at ฿1,439,900; MG’s service network is well established in Thailand; built locally.
Weaknesses: rear-wheel drive only; smallest boot at 457 L; the IM sub-brand is still new and unproven here.
Charging: What Each Can Use
Tesla Model Y L — Tesla Supercharger (opening to other brands Q4 2026), CCS2 everywhere, Tesla Wall Connector at home.
BYD Sealion 7 — CCS2 on all public chargers, 7-11 kW wall charger at home, 150 kW DC peak.
MG IM5 — CCS2 public charging, but the 800V platform is the point: 396 kW ultra-fast charging where you can find it (currently around 22 ultra-fast outlets nationwide).
That caveat matters. The IM5’s 12-minute charge is real, but only on ultra-fast hardware. On an ordinary 150 kW charger it behaves much like the others.

One Thing All Three Share
Whichever you choose, the component most likely to strand you is the 12V auxiliary battery — not the expensive traction pack. It’s the battery that wakes the car, and when it dies a fully charged EV becomes immobile and can’t even start charging.
