Geely EX2 vs BYD Atto 1 vs Wuling Bingo 2026: Which City EV Wins?

The ฿380,000-460,000 city EV bracket is the best-selling segment in Thailand in 2026, and three cars dominate the shortlist: Geely EX2, BYD Atto 1, and Wuling Bingo.

Here’s the thing almost everyone misses: the prices are nearly identical, but the battery sizes differ by up to 31%.

The Detail Nobody Mentions

At roughly ฿430,000 you have two choices:

  • BYD Atto 1 Dynamic30.08 kWh, 300 km NEDC
  • Geely EX2 Pro39.4 kWh, 395 km NEDC

That’s 31% more battery for the same money. If you look only at the sticker price and pick the BYD because the badge is more familiar, you’re paying the same amount for nearly a third less battery.

To get comparable capacity from BYD you need the Atto 1 Premium at ฿459,900 (38.88 kWh) — which lands almost exactly on the EX2 Max at ฿459,990 (39.4 kWh). The two are ฿90 apart.

What Each One Is Good At

Geely EX2 — best specification per baht

Strengths: biggest battery and longest range here at 39.4 kWh / 395 km; fastest charging at 80 kW with 1.66C support (30-80% in about 25 minutes); most powerful at 116 hp and rear-wheel drive, which makes it the most enjoyable to drive; the same battery in both Pro and Max trims, so you don’t pay extra for capacity; Flyme Auto 2.0 infotainment is genuinely slick.

Weaknesses: imported CBU from China, so it doesn’t benefit from EV3.5 the way locally assembled cars do; the brand only arrived in Thailand in late 2025 and the service network is still expanding; rear seat is tight for four adults on a long trip.

BYD Atto 1 — brand and service network

Strengths: BYD is the most trusted EV brand in Thailand with the widest dealer and service coverage; Blade LFP has an excellent safety record; build quality is a step above its rivals here; the Premium trim’s ADAS suite is the most complete (adaptive cruise, AEB, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition); resale values are typically the strongest in the group.

Weaknesses: the Dynamic trim only has 30.08 kWh — the smallest battery at this price point; ~74 hp is the least powerful here, and you notice it climbing Patong Hill with passengers aboard; you have to step up to Premium to match the EX2 on capacity.

Wuling Bingo — cheapest, and locally built

Strengths: clearly the cheapest at ฿369,000-389,000, undercutting rivals by ฿40,000-90,000; assembled in Thailand (CKD), so it gets full EV3.5 benefit; light and compact at 3,950 mm, making it the easiest to park in Patong or the Old Town; genuine Kei-car charm; backed by SAIC rather than being a fly-by-night brand.

Weaknesses: smallest battery at 31.9 kWh and the shortest real range (273 km WLTP); slowest charging at 50 kW (30-80% in about 35 minutes); cabin suits two people plus luggage better than four adults; service network is considerably thinner than BYD’s.

Five-Year Costs (With Corrected Pricing)

Assuming 15,000 km/year at ฿5/kWh, comparing entry trims:

Five-year total฿603,500฿611,500฿555,500
Difference vs Bingo+฿48,000+฿56,000

The Bingo is genuinely the cheapest, saving ฿48,000-56,000 over five years. But you’re paying less for 19-24% less battery — it isn’t the same product at a lower price.

Expressed as baht per kWh of battery: EX2 around ฿10,900/kWh · Atto 1 Dynamic around ฿14,300/kWh · Bingo around ฿12,200/kWh. On that measure the EX2 wins clearly.

Which Suits Phuket?

City driving only, 30-60 km a day → all three are more than enough. The Wuling Bingo is the best value and easiest to park in Patong and the Old Town.

Regular hill climbs (Patong, Karon, Nakkerd)Geely EX2. The difference between 116 hp / 150 Nm and the Atto 1 Dynamic’s ~74 hp is very noticeable going uphill with passengers.

Cross-province trips (Krabi, Phang Nga, Surat Thani)Geely EX2. 395 km plus 80 kW charging is a decisively better combination.

You want peace of mind on service and resaleBYD Atto 1, with the widest network. If the budget allows, skip Dynamic and go straight to Premium.

Long-stay visitors or a second carWuling Bingo. Lowest running cost and the right size for Phuket’s roads.

Charging in Phuket

All three use standard CCS2 and work on EA Anywhere and PEA Volta. The difference is speed — the EX2 at 80 kW finishes roughly 10 minutes sooner per session than the Bingo at 50 kW.

Verdict: a tie between EX2 and Atto 1 — for opposite reasons

  • Geely EX2 wins on specification per baht: more battery, more power, faster charging, same money.
  • BYD Atto 1 wins on peace of mind: service network, resale, build quality — but buy the Premium, not the Dynamic.
  • Wuling Bingo isn’t losing so much as playing a different game: cheapest and smallest. If that’s what you want, it’s the answer.

EV Phuket — City EV Service, All Brands

The battery that actually strands a city EV is the 12V auxiliary, not the traction pack — and these cars use small 12V batteries, so they fail sooner than on larger EVs.
